The Most Effective Ways to Avoid Podcast Burnout

When it comes to running a successful podcast there is one major thing that gets in the way for most shows. Burnout.

It happens to the best of us but feeling uninspired about your podcast doesn’t have to kill it. Here are some of my tips to avoid podcast fatigue.

1 Batch your episodes

You’ve probably heard this one a thousand times but it’s true! If you can record three or more episodes in one go and get them ready for release, you can give yourself a break without having a gap in your release schedule.

If you have a show that relies on other people or current events, consider batching a few episodes when you start feeling the burnout creep in. Talk to your co-host to schedule a longer recording sesh or talk about historical events for a couple of episodes.

2. Adjust your publishing schedule

If you are uploading too frequently, you may drive yourself to burnout. Look at your release schedule objectively and ask yourself if this is something you can reasonably enjoy keeping up with.

If you are uploading every week and that’s too much consider uploading every other week instead. Be sure to tell your existing listeners of the change.

3. Consider Offloading Responsibilities

You may start experiencing burnout because you’re simply doing too much. You’re not a wonder woman - you can’t do everything all the time.

Sometimes working with another person in the industry (hello!) is the best way to enjoy podcasting again. Offloading something like the editing can make your podcast feel easy again. Check out my Podcast Editing and Management Services.

4. Change up your Format

For some podcasters, the repetition of the same thing every week is what drives them to burnout. It can get boring, especially when you feel like your repeating yourself.

Instead of this consider adding a new format to your show once a month. Some things you can do are bring on a guest, host a Q&A, dive into a different topic, host a book club. Anything that shakes things up could help to reinspire you and attract new listeners.

Conclusion

Remember you’re not alone. Many podcasters experience burnout at some point. Joining a podcast group or network may prove beneficial for venting out your frustrations to people who understand. Preventing and curing burnout takes work. How you manage that is up to you.
