How to Launch a Podcast
So you want to know how to launch a podcast?
I’ve helped people just like you, launch and grow their podcasts using this exact framework you’re about to read.
Because you like simplicity, I’ve created The Podcast Launch Checklist which you can grab below. This is the COMPLETE roadmap from Idea to Hitting Publish. This guide includes everything you’ll need including:
Prompts to get you started
Recommendations on equipment and software
A setup checklist to make sure all of your bases are covered
Ideation Phase
Get out your notepad because it’s time to get all of those ideas on paper.
When you’re starting a podcast obviously you’ll need to think about:
The title
The description
What is it going to be about?
Are you going to have guests?
How long are your episodes going to be?
How often are you posting?
These are all things to consider before you even start recording. Get really clear on what kind of show you want to produce and who your show is for. This will make the rest of the launch super smooth and give you a gameplan to fall back on.
The Setup Phase
This is the stage of the launch where most people find themselves overwhelmed. There’s so much to do. Everything you need & my suggestions are laid out in the checklist.
Here are some things to remember when setting up:
Consider your budget
What are features you NEED from a hosting site, not all are created equal. Some hosting sites price based on hours uploaded and some are subscriber based.
Artwork is probably the most important piece of your setup. There are specific guidelines that must be followed to be accepted by most major streaming platforms.
The room you record in is more important than getting the most expensive microphone. Limit echo where you can.
Recording Phase
Alright, you’re in the home stretch. Now here comes the fun part, recording! I always recommend doing a test recording. This will key you in on any changes you need to make before you sink a ton of time into batching your first episodes.
When you’re ready to record your first episodes, here are some tips to remember:
Write yourself an outline to stay on topic
Don’t be too hard on yourself.
Don’t worry if you stammer or pause. Long pauses are the easiest thing to edit out, so it’s better to take your time and think about what you want to say than talk your way through it.
Your end product is a direct result of the quality of the original recording. TEST YOUR RECORDING. (I can’t say it enough)
After you record, edit your episode and upload it to the hosting platform you already set up in Phase 2.
The Marketing Phase
Now that everything is done, it’s time to hit Publish.
If you want listeners you’re going to have to do at least a little marketing. I recommend launching your podcast with at least 3 episodes to give your audience something to latch on to.
Post your show on social media and talk about it with your friends.
